The 2026 Brisbane Model Train Show was held over the weekend of the 4th and 5th of July at the Northside Wizards Basketball Stadium Zillmere. The show was hosted by Australian Model Railway Association Qld Inc, this being the 48th they have staged.
The program showed 33 Layouts, 22 Trade Stands, 9 Displays/Demos, and 1 Historical Society. The layout of the passage ways was rotated 90 degrees from last year show. The pathways were across the venue instead of down the venue. This appeared to be a much better arrangement for the distribution of power to the stands/layouts, but it did make the passage ways a tad long with patrons cutting between stands. All stands/layouts required carpet squares under the legs to avoid damaging the highly polished floors.
The show opened at 9:00 am on Saturday morning with a long queue waiting for the doors to open. The attendance during the day was exceptional, better than the total attendance for both days last year. Sunday also was good attendance with a steady stream of patrons. 3:00 pm Sunday and the show was over, I think most had a smile ear to ear.
The show had a general mix of most scales from “Z” to “G” in various prototypes. Most of the layouts were the same as last year with a couple of new ones, likewise for the trade stands, some didn’t return from last year, some that was missing had returned. Some like the venue, other don’t. Set up and packing up was via the front steps/ramp or the single high level loading bay at the rear. There was a number of vacant spots in a number of aisles which will allow for extra layouts/stands next year.
My plans for the show changed somewhat on
Friday afternoon, Craig from Tuesday Nighters lost his two helpers for his
Structure Building stand. I musted up a small display of wagons, some plans and
photos and I would continue building more “N” class sheep wagons. Lots of
talking, very little modelling was achieved. Great to catch up with many out of
towners including the boys from Canberra and north Queensland, blog supporters
and other modellers. Many, you only see once a year. A few were disappointed
that Amby West was not here, maybe next year. I did however spend some money on
more tanker kits and restock up on some styrene trip.
Lots has been happening in the workshop building more rollingstock. Some may be allocated to Amby West to change the setting. As much a possible all the leftover bits still the cupboard has been turned into rollingstock. The last Far North Hobbies kit has been now completed.
