On the Monday following the Regional Convention a few of us went into Sydney Central Station to check out the Expo. I had purchased tickets on line for a couple of trips during the day. Just in well I did as everything was sold out before the weekend. Most of the others at the convention took the opportunity to do layout tours.
A short bus ride to Parramatta station, an express train had us in town in no time.
Not a lot has changed with
the platforms
A regional service arrived
on Platform 1 just after a fire was tossed into 3801.
3801 and 3642 were in steam,
with their cabs open for inspection. The line-up went half way down the
platform.
Lunch was available in the Southern Aurora Dinning Cars.
Our first trip for the day
was in a CPH Rail Motor along the Sydney goods lines to the port.
The driver’s cab would be
one of the smallest I have ever set eyes on, not sure where he puts his tucker
box.
A couple of heritage
electric trains were running trips.
A couple of steam
locos were running one hour trips to Hurstville and return. 3526 with 42105 to
the back for the return journey.
Our second trip for the day
was behind AD 60 – 6029 with 4501 on the back. What a trip, must have been the roughest
train trip ever, how they didn’t drop the drawgear on the track I don’t know. Mainly
behind the Garratt at low speed, 45 class has it turn too at times.
To finish off the day, how about a ride on an old double decker bus.
Time to STOP, enjoy.
Arthur.
